Vineyard and Winemaking Notes

Acorn Hill, produced from grapes grown on the hillside blocks at Alegría Vineyards, is our first reserve wine. It is a blend of some of our favorite barrels of Acorn Sangiovese, Syrah, and Zinfandel. The orientation of these vineyard blocks to the west and south promotes balanced, even ripening fruit. Since each component is itself a field blend, the wine also includes small amounts of Viognier, Canaiolo, Mammolo, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet. Maturation of this limited production wine in a combination of Hungarian, American, and French oak brought out flavors of creamy vanilla and rich dark chocolate. In Tuscany, this wine would be considered Super Tuscan. Brawnier than our Sangiovese and more supple than our Syrah, the Acorn Hill blend is simultaneously rich and flavorful, elegant and restrained, robust and complex. Approachable upon release, it will age beautifully and can be enjoyed for years to come.

Tasting Notes

Sensual dark fruit and toasty oak aromas foretell the richness to follow. Creamy oak notes and polished tannins surround opulent flavors of blackberry, plum, ripe cherry, and rich dark chocolate. Traces of leather, cedar, and cola add interest and character. This unique blend offers delicious flavors and a solid structure in a one-of-a-kind wine. Enjoy this robust beauty with flatiron steak and a side of sautéed mushrooms, or grilled or roasted vegetables tossed with pasta, olive oil, and fresh herbs.
