| Vineyard and Winemaking Notes |
Like a musical medley (an arrangement of interwoven melodies) each vintage of Acorn Medley is a unique vineyard composition that reflects the terroir of our vineyards, the unusual diversity of grape varieties we grow, and our field-blending tradition. Each year, the weather conditions for the vintage, plus our grape growing and blending decisions, influence the wines we produce. For us, Medley represents the essence of Alegría Vineyards for that vintage.
For our ninth Acorn Medley, we first crushed, cold-soaked, and co-fermented our “base blend,” which includes Syrah, Cinsaut, Viognier, Mataro, six different muscat varieties, Béclan, Einsett, and other table grapes. All our 2008 wines were then barrel aged for a year before we conducted tasting trials to see which of our 2008 wines played well with the Medley base blend. After trying various combinations, we decided to add seven barrels of our field-blended Cabernet Franc and seven barrels of our field-blended Zinfandel to the base blend.
The result is this elegant and complex wine that showcases the essence of the 2008 vintage at Alegría Vineyards.
